THE MANGER
“And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” (Luke 2:7)
The manger is known as the Holy Crib. It was commonly used as a trough to feed animals.
DIRECTIONS
The manger is in Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome Italy.
The basilica is easy to find because it is near the train station and it only takes 6 minutes to walk there. Take the south exit out of the train station and head left (southeast) down Via Giovanni Giolitti. Turn right (southwest) down Via Gioberti. The Church is at a large intersection. You can’t miss it.
Plan ahead in make sure to go during visiting hours:
Head inside. You will see a large altar table at the far end of the Church, head towards it.
Go down the set of stairs leading below the altar.
You will see the manger. Blessed Jerome’s relics are here as well.
