ST LAWRENCE THE MARTYR
St. Lawrence the martyr (Feast Day: August 10th) was one of the seven deacons of the Church of Rome in the third century AD under the reign of Pope Sixtus ll. Emperor Valerian had him killed in 258 AD.
DIRECTIONS
St. Lawrence the martyr’s relics are in the Basilica di San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura (Outside the Walls) in Rome Italy.
To get to the Basilica head north out of the train station and turn right (SE) on Via Marsala. I warn you, this is not the tourist area of Rome, so the surroundings may look a little decrepit. Head southeast until you get to Via dei Ramni and turn left (NE). The road will eventually turn into Via Cesare de Lollis, so keep heading straight (NE). The Church will be on the right side.
Note: I don’t know why but the Church seems to have multiple names (I don’t speak Italian so there is probably a simple explanation.). In google maps it says the Church is named Basilica San Lorenzo al Verano, but every other source I found names it Basilica di San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura (Outside the Walls). The name doesn’t matter too much because the point is that the relics are in that location.
You will notice when you are near the Church because there is a pillar with a statue of St. Lawrence on top of it.
When you go inside, head to the front of the Church to a staircase that leads you down below the altar where the St. Lawrence’s relics are kept.
My parish, St. Lawrence the Martyr in North Highlands CA, has no altar relic. What are the changes we could obtain a small piece of bone for placement in our altar and blessed by our bishop? Thank you.
I am a world traveller and a Christian, so I only visited the Church where St.Lawrence’s relics are located as a tourist. You will have to contact the Church itself, perhaps even get the priest to contact it and provide proof of your Church (website) and see what happens.
