ST DONATUS OF AREZZO
St. Donatus of Arezzo (Feast Day: August 7th) is a pre schism saint from Italy. Julian the Apostate had him killed on August 7th, 362. St. Donatus was a bishop and a confessor of the faith. He was born in Nicomedia, but moved Rome and later to Arezzo after his parents reposed in the Lord..
LOCATION
St. Donatus of Arezzo’s relics are in The Church of Santa Maria e San Donato in Murano—an island in the Venetian Lagoons.
If you plan on making a trip to Venice and wish to venerate the relics of the saints—especially on some of the islands—then I recommend planning at least 2 days. It takes a while for the boats to get from one island to another, so plan at least one day to visit some of the ‘lagoons’.
Murano is a beautiful island composed of several smaller islands.
In order to get there you will have to head north from the train station in Venice and find a pier along the norther coast. It is there where you will be able to buy tickets and sail to different islands.
Once you debark the boat on Murano, head to the central island and make your way to Fondamenta S. Lorenzo—a road that loops around the eastern coast. Be careful, the road will change names along the southern coast to Riva Longa.
Once you find the Church, head inside and to towards the altar where the relics of St. Donatus will be.
St. Donato of Arezzo’s relics are at the front of the Church above the altar.
OTHER RELICS IN VENICE
If you found this post useful then plan to visit the relics of other Saints in Venice like St. Athanasius the Great, St. Lucy (Lucia) of Syracuse, St. Mark the Evangelist, or St. Zachariah the father of St. John the Baptist.
